“The Strengths of Our Community and Our Culture”

While cultural continuity has been identified as an important Indigenous determinant of health, there is limited qualitative research that sought to understand the meaning and context for First Nations, Inuit, Métis people in Canada. Specifically, despite reported disparities mental health population British Columbia (BC) elsewhere—as well challenges many face maintaining connectedness—cultural with communities remains largely ignored. This study explores people’s experiences conceptualizations through conversational interviews, analyzed overarching themes within a worldview. From this analysis, three are presented scope paper: stories culture, identity, health; importance community; intergenerational knowledge transmission. speaks role plays shaping journeys health. There need continued support maintenance practices, language revitalization, Elder-youth engagement opportunities increased people, families, BC.
